Teen sentenced in death of Chicago student

CHICAGO (AP) — A 15-year-old found guilty in the beating death of a Chicago high school honor student will be confined to a juvenile detention center until he is 21 years old.

Judge Colleen Sheehan on Tuesday imposed the sentence on the boy, who was convicted in December of murder in the 2009 death of Derrion Albert. Sheehan ruled if the boy breaks any rules while incarcerated, he will serve 30 years in prison as an adult.

On a cell phone video, the 16-year-old Albert is seen being punched and hit over his head with large boards and kicked in the head.

The brawl broke out after classes let out of Fenger High School on Chicago’s South Side.

Last week, a 20-year-old man was found guilty of murder in Albert’s death.
