NJ school bus hit by gunfire; pedestrian injured


NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Police in Newark, N.J., say a school bus was hit by gunfire as it stopped to drop off students from an elementary school. No one on the bus was injured.

The small, yellow bus was carrying three students from Dayton Street Elementary School when shots were fired just before 5 p.m. today. Newark police spokesman Hubert Henderson said one round struck the door of the bus, shattering the window. The driver drove the bus to a safe location, then called police.

A pedestrian was grazed by a bullet. He was treated at a hospital and released.

Police were trying to determine who fired the shots.
