Malfunction causes blast at Montana aerospace facility

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — A rocket malfunctioned during a test, causing an explosion at an aerospace facility about 10 miles west of Butte, Mont.

Dave Micheletti is president of the Montana Aerospace Development Association. He tells KXLF-TV that no one was injured in the explosion at the AeroTec facility this afternoon. He wouldn’t release any information on possible damages.

Micheletti says facility officials are investigating the explosion’s cause and plan to meet with city-county officials Wednesday in Butte to brief them on the explosion.

AeroTec offers a place for companies and universities to test rockets and jet engines.
