Police officers, including those in unmarked cars, will be at Boardman High School today after someone wrote on a bathroom wall that he was bringing a gun to school. The “very general threat” of bringing a gun to school today was found on a bathroom wall last week, police said. Police said they are taking the threat seriously and will have extra officers at the school today.

Applications for free garden lots

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation is accepting applications for its free Lots of Green market-gardener training program. Participants in the market-gardener training program will be trained in environmental and business aspects of sustainable market-gardening. Included are practical agricultural techniques and small-business-development topics. Field trips to visit farmers and farmers markets and hands-on workshops also will be part of the training. Those who complete the 10-week training program will receive assistance in finding further agricultural opportunities and will be provided with space at a market-garden incubator site.

Litter Control receives award

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling received a Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award during the organization’s 57th annual national conference in Orlando, Fla. The award recognizes exemplary performance made by affiliates of the national nonprofit environmental organization to reduce litter, minimize waste, recycle and beautify their local communities.

YLCR is a division of the city’s department of public works.
