Brother sues over sale of Oswald’s coffin

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Lee Harvey Oswald’s brother is suing a Texas funeral home and California auction house over the sale of the presidential assassin’s original coffin.

Robert Edward Lee Oswald said he thought the water-damaged wooden coffin was destroyed after his brother’s body was exhumed in 1981 amid conspiracy theories surrounding President John F. Kennedy’s death. Another coffin was used for the reburial.

The lawsuit was filed last week in Fort Worth. It accuses Baumgardner Funeral Home of invasion of privacy, negligence, and breach of contract.

The 76-year-old Wichita Falls man claims he is the rightful owner and tried to stop the sale after learning about it through media reports. He’s seeking unspecified damages

Lee Harvey Oswald was shot to death at a Dallas police station two days after Kennedy’s 1963 assassination.
