Former dictator returns to Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti
Former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier returned Sunday to Haiti nearly 25 years after a popular uprising against his brutal dictatorship forced him into exile, a surprising and perplexing move that comes as his country struggles with a political crisis and the stalled effort to recover from last year’s earthquake.
Duvalier, part of a father-and-son dynasty that presided over one of the darkest chapters in Haitian history, arrived on an Air France jet to hugs from supporters at the Port-au-Prince airport. He was calm as he was led into the immigration office. He left the airport without making a statement to journalists.

Call it a charity bonanza. Royal aides say Prince William and Kate Middleton are considering asking guests at their April 29 wedding to make donations to charity instead of sending them wedding gifts.
A spokesman who asked not to be identified because of royal-family policy told The Associated Press on Sunday this option was being considered but no firm decision had been made.
A substantial amount of money could possibly be raised for charity this way.
Gunbattles erupt in Tunisian capital
TUNIS, Tunisia
Major gunbattles erupted outside the palace of Tunisia’s deposed president, in the center of the capital, in front of the main opposition party headquarters and elsewhere Sunday as authorities struggled to restore order and the world waited to see if the North African nation would continue its first steps away from autocratic rule.
Police arrested dozens of people as tensions appeared to mount between Tunisians buoyant over Zine El Abidine Ben Ali’s departure and loyalists in danger of losing major perks.
