Mount Union will sponsor women’s history celebration

The University of Mount Union will host several events in honor and celebration of Women’s History Month. This year’s theme is “Our History is Our Strength.”

Tuesday: Women’s History Month Dessert, 5:30 p.m. Topic: Women in Community Leadership, on the Campus Grounds of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.

Keynote speaker will be Janet Weir Creighton, vice president of the board of Stark County commissioners.

Other facilitators are Victoria Wood, executive director of the Alliance Red Cross; Crisiva Varner, candidate for Perry trustee; Angela Zumbar, former president of Alliance Women’s Club; Phyllis Phillips, Alliance City councilwoman; Theresa Davis, instructor of history at Mount Union; and Dixie Park, Stark County probate judge.

March 16: Panel discussion on Women in Business, 7 p.m., Alumni Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.

The panel, featuring accomplished alumni, will focus on women holding powerful leadership positions in the business world.

Panelists are Lee Ann Thorn, executive director of Atrium OB/GYN, Inc.; Nancy Hill, president and CEO of the American Association of Advertising Agencies; and Sandi Thomas, former senior vice president of JP Morgan Chase.

March 23: Keynote address by Susan Douglas, 7 p.m. Mount Union Theatre. The speaker is an author, columnist, cultural critic and professor of communication studies at the University of Michigan.

March 28: Brown Bag Lunch with Theresa Davis. Topic is “Courting Justice: Women and the Stark County Court in the 29th Century,” noon, Alumni room of Hoover-Price.

Davis is instructor of history at Mount Union. Those attending may take their own lunch or order from B&B Caf .
