UPDATED: Several reports of flooding in the Valley


There are several reports of flooding in the Valley following overnight storms and the melt-off of snow as temperatures headed into the 50's this morning.

In Hubbard, North Main Street/Route 62 from the city into Hubbard Township was closed because of high water as is the Interstate 80 exit ramp onto Route 62.

In Girard, homes in the Chrysann Drive neighborhood have are seeing some basement flooding, said a resident who called The Vindicator newsroom.

In Weathersfield Township, state Route 46 between McKees Lane and Salt Springs Road is closed due to flooding, said David Pugh, township administrator.

In addition, the Ohio Department of Transportation has announced the following road closures because of flooding:

• State route 165 between U.S. Route 62 and state Route 46.

• State Route 14 just west of the Mahoning-Columbiana County line.

• State Route 7 just north of the Ohio Turnpike is reduced to one lane.

• State Route 558 at Franklin Square and state Route 154 at Elkton in Columbiana County.

• State Rout 165 between New Buffalo Road and Blosser Road.

• The exit ramp from Interstate 680 northbound to Salt Springs Road.

Also, state Route 46 between state Route 165 and Western Reserve Road has reopened after an earlier closure.

The National Weather Service has extended its flood warning for The Mahoning River in Youngstown until further notice. The river stood at 15.3 feet at 11 a.m. and is expected to crest at 16.6 feet tonight.

The entire Valley is under a flood watch until 7 p.m. after overnight storms dumped up to 3 inches of rain into some areas.

Forecasters are calling for a few remaining rain showers mixing with snow showers as temperatures fall during the afternoon. The low tonight is expected to be 21 degrees. Tuesday should be dry and sunny with a high in the lower 40's.
