UK company sells ice cream containing human breast milk

LONDON

Gross or tasty? A London company is offering an unusual dessert — ice-cream made with human breast milk.

The Icecreamists, a trendy ice cream parlor, says its “Baby Gaga” ice-cream sold out as soon as it launched Friday.

The company paid women who donated their breast milk after health screening. The milk is then pasteurized and churned together with vanilla pods and lemon zest.

The dish comes in a martini glass and sells for $22.50 each.

Matt O’Connor, who owns the company, says the product is “organic, free-range and totally natural.”

The Food Standards Agency says there are no specific laws prohibiting businesses from selling human-milk products, although they must comply with general food safety laws to ensure the product is safe for consumption.

Homeless Michigan man seeks donor of diamond ring

PONTIAC, Mich.

A homeless man in southeast Michigan says a woman accidentally gave him a gold ring laced with diamonds when she handed him a handful of change.

Michael Secaur tells The Oakland Press that he was panhandling at an intersection in Pontiac recently when a woman pulled up in a vehicle and handed him some money. He says the ring was among some coins, and that he thinks she “did an ‘oops.’”

Secaur says he would recognize the woman if he saw her again.

He says he quickly dismissed a plan to pawn the ring. The owner of a shelter where Secaur often stays has locked it in a safety- deposit box.

Secaur says he has lived on the streets of Pontiac for nearly two years.

Girl Scouts in troop in Georgia fear arrest for cookie peddling

VILLA RICA, Ga.

A Girl Scout leader says young members of her troop thought they were headed to jail when a Georgia police officer told them to quit selling cookies.

The girls had set up a stand at a strip mall in Villa Rica about 30 miles west of Atlanta on Wednesday when the officer asked them if they had a peddler’s permit. They didn’t.

Troop Leader Kathy Crook told WXIA-TV in Atlanta that she was stunned. She says the Scouts were told to pack it up.

And she says the younger members thought they would be taken to jail.

The city’s police chief and mayor spoke with the officer. They say he did nothing wrong and that it was a misunderstanding.

The troop now has a permit to sell. To smooth things over, the city is offering the Scouts a pizza party.
