Kidnapping charges

hubbard

Police are seeking a warrant for the arrest of Daniel R. Hilty, 22, of the 200 block of Woodbine Avenue, Warren, on charges of kidnapping after an incident early Friday.

Police said he and his 21-year-old girlfriend of Early Road Youngstown were traveling on Jacobs Road near Hubbard Road at 6:56 a.m. Friday and became engaged in dispute.

He pulled over, and she tried to get her two children, a 3-year-old boy and an 18-month-old boy, out of the car. But Hilty pulled away with the children still in the vehicle.

Hubbard police alerted Youngstown police. In less than 40 minutes, Youngstown police were able to locate the children at the Early Road address. The children were unhurt.

Citizens award

The Salem Historical Society is seeking nominations for its 2011 “Citizens of Honor” award. The inaugural class of 24 citizens was installed in 2006 during the Salem Bicentennial, and six others have been named in the last four years.

Nominees should be Salem-connected residents from the present or past who have distinguished themselves with service to their community, their career, and to their country. New members will be named during the Founders’ Day program in April. Any field of accomplishment can be considered.

Submissions may be sent to the society, 208 S. Broadway Ave., Salem, Ohio 44460 by Tuesday. All nominations will be kept on file for present and future consideration.

Drug charges

Liberty

A Girard woman will appear Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court to answer several charges after she was stopped by Liberty police on Trumbull Avenue and state Route 193 (Belmont Avenue) earlier this week.

Police charged Laurie L. Harmon, 35, of Trumbull Avenue, with possession of drug paraphernalia and having fictitious plates after the random traffic stop at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Harmon said she had a temporary tag and produced the registration. The plate on her black four-door Pontiac, however, belonged on a blue GMC truck.

Police also found two burnt spoons and two syringes.

She was given a citation for the fictitious plate and released on personal recognizance bond. She will appear in court on the drug paraphernalia charge.

Someone at the residence called 911 and while on the line, the dispatcher heard a gunshot.

When police arrived, they found the bullet had hit a door in the residence. The 33-year-old victim, the man’s son, was unhurt and told police that his father didn’t intend to fire the gun.
