Students at Canfield Village Middle School gathered in the school’s gymnasium Feb. 9 to support and cheer on their winter sports teams.

The teams’ cheerleaders, who decorated the gym with homemade signs, streamers and red and black balloons, led the students in cheers and performed cheers and dance routines of their own.

The cheerleaders and members of the winter sports teams, including hockey, wrestling, seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball and seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball, were introduced to the crowd.

Each team member was called to the stage by their coach or fellow team members. Each coach made it a point to thank the students and staff of the middle school for all their support throughout their seasons and encouraged them to continue to come out and watch the teams play.

Eighth-grade girls basketball coach Ken Reel delivered a heart-felt speech about his team and read a poem in their honor. He also honored two former members of his team who are now teachers at the middle school.

“I am very proud of all these young ladies,” Reel said after he introduced his team.

To end the assembly, the cheerleaders led the crowd in a V-I-C-T-O-R-Y cheer. First, they encouraged the entire crowd to cheer and then the students cheered by grade and last, but not least, the teachers were given their chance to let out a cheer in support of the teams, too.
