Women’s League to meet March 7

The next meeting of the Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League is scheduled for March 7 at Glenellen Assisted Living, 9661 Market St., at 7 p.m.

Plans for the March 12 St. Patrick’s Day party at The Embassy will be finalized.

The Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League is open to all women over 18, residing in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement.

Their mission is to provide a creative outlet for women interested in providing community service in areas of arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs.

Support recovery from addiction

All are welcome to support recovery from addiction at Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic’s eighth annual Fellowship Brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 13 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road in Canfield.

Abraham J. Twerski, founder and medical director emeritus of Gateway Rehab, NKRC’s parent organization, will be the featured speaker for the event. An internationally-recognized authority in the addiction treatment field, Twerski will discuss integrating the processes vital to sustaining recovery from drug or alcohol addiction including 12-step programs, treatment options, personal challenges and family dynamics.

The cost to attend the event is $15 per person and includes a breakfast buffet.

Book sales and autographs by Twerski will follow the presentation. Advance reservations are required with a deadline of March 7.

Soccer team sponsors spaghetti dinner

The Ursuline High School boys soccer team is hosting a spaghetti dinner and Chinese auction March 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 343 Via Mt. Carmel in Youngstown.

Tickets are $8 and available at the door. The auction will begin at 4:15 p.m.

Get found on the Web

The Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host Search Engine Optimization: Getting Found on the Web March 21 at 6:30 p.m.

The program will feature Technology consultant Tyler Clark who will help teach what it takes to get a website a top search ranking.

Friends of Library meeting scheduled

The next Friends of the Library meeting has been scheduled for March 14 at 10 a.m. at the Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley.

The program is titled “Pretty Boy Floyd” and will be presented by Attorney Timothy Brookes.

Blood pressure screenings at the library

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will host a blood pressure screening at the Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 7.

Homestead exemption outreach

Representatives from the Mahoning County Auditor’s office will be available for Homestead Exemption questions March 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Give blood at the library

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will host a blood drive March 28 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Teen Tech Week tournament

The Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is celebrating Teen Tech Week March 24 at 3:30 p.m. with a Wii tournament.

The winner will receive a $25 gift card. Participants must be in grades seven through 12.

Next TAB meeting scheduled

The Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County has scheduled the next Teen Advisory Board meeting for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

TAB meets the first Wednesday of every month and newcomers are always welcome.

Yoga before bedtime

The Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is offering stories and yoga March 10 at 7 p.m.

The program, for children of all ages, lasts 45 minutes and participants must bring their own yoga mats.

Enjoy local artwork from area students

The eighth annual “Celebration of the Arts” is scheduled for March 15-22 at the Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County during regular library hours.

Enjoy artwork from Boardman area students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Artwork from students in grades seven through 12 will be on display March 31 through April 7.

This is the tenth annual “Celebration of the Arts” for this age group. Opening night is scheduled for March 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Bonding with babies and books at the library

Join the Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Thursday at 10 a.m. for Baby Brilliant: Bonding with babies and books.

The program for children 6 to 23 months old offers developmentally appropriate book, songs, rhymes and finger plays.

This program is also available for 2 and 3-year-olds Wednesdays in March at 10 a.m.

The program for 4 and 5-year-olds is scheduled for Tuesdays in March at 10 a.m.

Auction for antiques

The Junior Group of Goodwill will host its Antique and Collectible Auction Friday and March 5 at Stambaugh Auditorium with George Roman Auctioneers presiding.

The event will begin with a patron party from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday. Festivities will include a collectible jewelry auction, merchant donation auction and more, Basket raffles, silent auction, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, hors d’oeuvres, pastries and cash bar will be available.

Ticket prices for the patron party are $25 per person and can be purchased at the Goodwill offices on Belmont Avenue or any Goodwill store. Tickets must be purchased by Monday. Tickets purchased after the deadline will cost $30 if available.

On March 5, antique and collectible auction items will be featured. Preview will begin at 10 a.m. with the auction starting at 11 a.m. Admission is $2 at the door.

Taste wine for a cause

The Youngstown Club on Commerce Street will host a wine tasting extravaganza March 5 for the benefit of Mahoning County DD Special Olympics.

Chef Michael will use his culinary expertise to prepare hors d’oeuvres with various wines to enhance the complementary flavors of both. Tickets are $50 per person and include a charitable tax deduction of $25. To reserve tickets, call 330-724-2177.

Dinner and a raffle planned March 18

The Boardman Band and Orchestra will host its third annual Reverse Raffle and Dinner March 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Georgetown, 5945 South Ave.

Tickets are $100 per couple and include dinner for two, open bar, D.J. and Reverse Raffle ticket.

There will be a small reverse raffle side board, Chinese raffle and 50/50 raffle.

Monday meetings set for conservation district

Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District Board meetings for 2011 will be at 7 p.m. the second Monday each month at the District Office, 850 Industrial Road in Youngstown.

Bring a mat and small blanket to learn a blend of energizing yoga styles from Heidi Suraci at Fellows Riverside Gardens on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout March.

Tuesdays will feature beginners’ classes from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and intermediate classes from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Thursday classes will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are open to all levels.
