Theft attempt by bogus meter reader, 2 others in Girard

A resident of the 500 block of Dearborn Avenue told police that a man claiming to be from East Ohio Gas Co. came to his house to read the meter.

The resident said he was expecting someone from the gas company, so he let the man in his house. The home-owner noticed there were two other men in a van that the man had driven.

While the homeowner and man were in the basement, the other men entered the house and rifled through drawers. The resident reported that he could find nothing missing. The men may have been looking for money but didn’t find any.
