Health officials revoked the food license of Slammin’ Sam’s Stagecoach Restaurant on Market Street extension in Beaver Township.

At its meeting earlier this week, the Mahoning County District Board of Health revoked the business’s license to prepare and sell food. Later in the day, county health sanitarians and law enforcement served notice on the restaurant at 10300 Market, said Matthew Stefanak, health commissioner.

According to health- department documents, the restaurant has been in violation of several food-safety regulations since February 2007 because of a malfunctioning sewage-treatment system.

Meetings between the licensee and health- department officials took place Aug. 28, 2007, and July 21, 2009, at which the licensee indicated attempts were made to correct violations. A proposed resolution to revoke the food license was passed by the health board April 28, 2010, which was appealed by the licensee to a hearing officer, who conducted a hearing Aug. 12, 2010.

At the time, the parties agreed the licensee must come into compliance by Jan. 14. As of Tuesday, the violations remained uncorrected, health officials said.

An attempt to reach the restaurant owners’ lawyer by telephone was unsuccessful.

Loss of the food license also means that business cannot serve liquor, officials said.

Stefanak said the business could either fix its private sewage-treatment system or connect to an available public sewer system. If either of those things happen, the business can apply to have its food license reinstated, he said.
