BOARDMAN

A 36-year-old Youngstown man will pay $325 in fines and serve 75 days in Mahoning County jail after pleading no contest to multiple charges, including criminal trespassing.

Anthony M. Salata was sentenced Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court here. Salata pleaded no contest to eight charges of criminal trespass and one charge each of resisting arrest, obstructing justice and possession of criminal tools. Judge Joseph M. Houser found him guilty of all charges.

Police arrested Salata late Monday after receiving a call about a suspicious man on Melrose Avenue. When officers arrived, they found John M. Real, 40, of Youngstown in a car, and Real told police Salata went to get gas for the vehicle, according to reports.

An officer followed footprints in the snow that weaved across the street to Erskine, Afton and Meadowbrook avenues before they found Salata miles away on Applecrest and Trailwood drives. Police spotted Salata, chased him and later found him crouched behind a large trash receptacle on Applewood Boulevard, reports state.

Police issued Real a citation for driving under suspension.
