POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Feb. 18

Possible theft/criminal trespassing: Police confronted two people with a U-Haul truck on a piece of Ward Avenue property who were attempting to remove a flag pole but who said they had permission. An investigation continued.

Possible scam: An East Wilson Avenue man reported receiving a call police determined was from Jamaica claiming he had won a large sweepstakes drawing.

Criminal mischief: Officers received a call regarding several vehicles near Shawnee Drive that were struck by eggs.

Possible breaking and entering: A woman in the 1000 block of Church Hill Road discovered damage to a dog kennel, leading her to believe someone had broken in. Police, however, found neither signs of forced entry nor anything missing or stolen.

Feb. 19

Theft: A male stole a $2 energy drink from Santisi’s IGA Super Center, 419 N. State St.

Harassment: A Highland Avenue man reported a woman sent and made at least 24 unwanted text messages, calls and e-mails regarding money she was owed.

Arrest: Authorities responding to a possible domestic-violence situation on East Prospect Street charged a 14-year-old Girard boy with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after saying he ignored officers’ commands and refused to cooperate.

Feb. 20

Burglary: Occurred in the 900 block of Dravis Street, where a 42-inch flat-screen TV was missing.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: An East Prospect Street woman said her husband took and failed to return her Mercury Sable.

Feb. 21

Burglary: To a home in the 600 block of Church Hill Road through a bedroom window. Cooper plumbing was stolen.

Feb. 22

Criminal mischief: A vehicle’s front windshield was smashed in the 100 block of East Liberty Street. Damage came to $300.

HUBBARD

Feb. 16

Criminal mischief: Someone struck a home in the 500 block of Gladys Drive with eggs.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to break into two storage units in the 1000 block of North Main Street.

Feb. 17

Theft of services: An employee with Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St., told police a man was illegally using a company-owned trash bin.

Theft: A man returned to his Hillview Drive apartment and realized all of the contents had been stolen.

Drugs: An official with Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave., reported finding drugs on the property.

Fraud: A Burdie Drive man selling a boat reported an out-of-state potential buyer had sent a $5,000 check police determined was phony.

Feb. 18

Bad check: A man tried to cash such a check at Devine’s Shop ‘n’ Save, 529 N. Main St.

Damage: The driver of a four-wheel drive vehicle damaged part of a front yard in the 1100 block of West Liberty Street.

Feb. 19

Criminal damaging: A Parish Avenue man discovered someone had deliberately turned on an outside water source.

Feb. 20

Damage: A vehicle struck three mailboxes in the 700 block of Elmwood Drive and left the scene.

Theft: A woman reported her computer stolen in the 200 block of Clingan Street.

LIBERTY

Feb. 17

Criminal damaging: Eggs were tossed at a car in the 4900 block of Fifth Avenue.

Criminal mischief: Police arrested five boys, age 15 to 17, after eggs had been thrown at a vehicle in the 5000 block of Fifth Avenue. Two cases of eggs were found in their truck during a traffic stop, and all five were released to the custody of their parents, a report said.

Recovered property: A woman near Gypsy Lane found in the road and turned over to police a bag containing a loaded .38-caliber revolver.

Theft: A temporary registration plate was removed from a car on James Lane.

Arrest: Abdliezl Hassan Sr., 44, of 135 S. Dunlap Ave., Youngstown, was arrested during a traffic stop near Colonial Drive. He was wanted on a theft charge.

Feb. 18

Theft: A woman at a Belmont Avenue restaurant discovered $340 missing from her pocketbook.

Drugs: Brookfield police apprehended and turned over to Liberty authorities 30-year-old Jason DeLong, 596 Sherman Ave., Sharon, Pa. He was wanted by the Girard Municipal Court on a charge of attempted trafficking in drugs.

Arrest: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue took custody of 57-year-old Henry C. Centofanti, 4200 Erie St., Boardman, who was wanted on a probation-violation count.

Theft/vandalism: A worker with Miller’s Towing Inc., 4100 Belmont Ave., noticed someone had damaged a vehicle’s exhaust system and removed a catalytic converter.

Drug paraphernalia: Police charged 46-year-old Sylvia R. Rogers, 331 Breaden St., Youngstown, with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension after getting a report of a motorist suspiciously following a vehicle on Church Hill Road. Rogers admitted two suspected crack pipes in the vehicle were hers, a report showed.

Vandalism: A box truck belonging to Forum Health Northside Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, was found with extensive damage.

Theft: Jason L. Womack, 25, of 1425 Forestview Drive, Youngstown, was charged with stealing deodorant, a three-pack of T-shirts and other items from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza.

Theft: Both license plates were stolen off a vehicle in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue.

Feb. 19

Theft: Police pulled over a car near the Liberty Plaza after women’s clothing had been stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, then filed charges against 24-year-old Shakeisha R. Moreland, 1475 Woodcrest Ave., Youngstown, as well as 19-year-old Breona L. Smith, 223 W. Lincoln Ave., New Castle, Pa., and Talasha D. Patrick, 24, of 322 Halco Drive, New Castle. A 15-year-old Youngstown girl also was charged and was wanted on a warrant.

Criminal damaging: Someone tried to pry open and damaged a garage door in the 2800 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road.

Theft: A vehicle’s front license plate was stolen in the 3500 block of Denver Avenue.

Feb. 21

Theft: Twelve aluminum tire rims, two vehicle batteries and $500 worth of hand tools were taken from a garage in the 1600 block of Liberty Avenue. The loss was estimated at $1,240.

Arrest: Authorities on Goldie Road picked up 22-year-old Richard M. Clay, 3110 Woodbine Ave. SE, Warren. Clay was wanted on a warrant from Niles.

Theft: Roughly $60 worth of hygiene products was stolen from Dollar General, resulting in charges against Antwanisha Jones, 19, of 130 Halleck St., Youngstown, and 36-year-old Earlene Williams, 1547 Hubbard Road, Youngstown.
