Veteran Cincy radio-TV legend dies at 93

CINCINNATI (AP) — Bill Nimmo, who worked with such stars as Johnny Carson, Jackie Gleason and Regis Philbin during decades in radio and television, has died at age 93 near Cincinnati.

With a distinctive baritone voice and enduring love for show business, Nimmo was an actor, singer, newscaster, host and announcer in a career that started as an overnight deejay for Cincinnati’s WLW-AM in 1947.

He had returned home as a decorated World War II Army veteran.

Nimmo often told the story of quitting as Carson’s sidekick on the “Who Do You Trust” daytime game show in 1957 to host “For Love Or Money.” His replacement? Ed McMahon.

His family told The Cincinnati Enquirer that Nimmo, who died Tuesday, donated his body to the University of Cincinnati and didn’t want a memorial service.
