To be sentenced

YOUNGSTOWN

Linda D. Messing of Canfield will be sentenced at 2:30 p.m. March 31 for stealing money from two local churches where she worked.

Messing, 49, of Russo Drive, pleaded guilty to theft Tuesday before Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for stealing $15,000 from St. Michael Church of Canfield and $10,000 from St. Christine Church in Youngstown. Police reports said the thefts from St. Christine occurred between June 2007 and October 2008.

Boys questioned

WARREN

Two 14-year-old boys were questioned and one of them charged with robbery Sunday morning after a 26-year-old Hamilton Street Southwest man said he was attacked.

The victim said he was walking on Nevada Avenue at Hamilton Street Southwest when a group of juveniles attacked him about 12:30 a.m. The man said that the youths beat him and stole his cell phone. The man was taken to St. Joseph Health Center for injuries to his mouth, face and torso.

Warren police officers questioned 10 juveniles walking along West Market Street near Oregon Avenue a short time later. When officers called the cell phone number of the victim, it rang in the pocket of one of the suspects. He was charged with robbery and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.

A second youth was released after the first suspect accused the second one of slipping the phone into his pocket.

Lane reduction

YOUNGSTOWN

Beginning at 7 a.m. today, Interstate 680 southbound between South Avenue and Midlothian Boulevard will be reduced to one lane until 3 p.m. for pavement repair and pothole patching.

4-H bowl-a-thon

CORTLAND

The Trumbull 4-H Advisory Committee is sponsoring a Moonlight Bowl-a-thon at 9 p.m. April 1 at Cortland Lanes to raise money for the Trumbull County 4-H program. Cost is $25 per pair (husband/wife, parent/child, friend/friend, etc.) and includes 3 games, shoe rental and refreshments. Proceeds go toward camp scholarships, college scholarships, adviser/member recognition, and other 4-H programs and events. If interested, call 330-637-2437.

Cleanup planned

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will participate in the Keep America Beautiful Great American CleanupÔ°ø April 1 to May 31. Everyone is invited to join by selecting a littered area and registering at www.startrecycling to receive trash bags and flower-seed packets.

Apparel needed

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State University Women’s Club will be accepting donations of clean and contemporary women’s business apparel and monetary donations from 9 to 11:30 a.m. March 4 in Kilcawley Center’s Presidential Suite on the YSU campus. Clothing should be dry-cleaned and on hangers. Interview-appropriate skirt and pant suits, blouses, jackets and professional shoes will be accepted. Dress For Success supports disadvantaged women who are seeking jobs.
