Gov. Kasich names casino panel

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

COLUMBUS (AP) — Gov. John Kasich has appointed the first woman speaker of the Ohio House to a bipartisan commission overseeing Ohio casinos.

The Republican governor today picked former Speaker Jo Ann Davidson to be on the seven-member commission to regulate the state’s new casino industry.

The Ohio Senate in December rejected the previous Democratic governor’s picks for the panel to allow Kasich the chance to choose his own nominees.

Other members include McKinley Brown, Martin Hoke, Ranjan Manoranjan, Peter Silverman, John Steinhauer and June Taylor.

By law, the commission must include an attorney, a certified public accountant, a person with law enforcement experience and representation from counties where casinos will be built.

Casinos approved by voters in 2009 are planned in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo.
