Wife of man charged with harming son seeks divorce


MIAMI (AP) — The wife of a Miami father accused of dousing their 10-year-old son with toxic chemicals plans to file for divorce.

Jorge Barahona has pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse for allegedly pouring chemicals on his son.

Joseph P. George, an attorney for Barahona’s wife, Carmen, said today that she plans to file for divorce. He didn’t specify when she would file.

Authorities found the body of the dead boy’s 10-year-old twin sister in the back of Jorge Barahona’s truck last week. The brother was found in the front seat, dripping in a chemicals and writhing in seizures. He remains hospitalized.

The cause of death of the boy’s sister, Nubia, has not yet been released.
