FARRELL, Pa
U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire of McCandless, Pa. D-4th, Farrell Area Schools Superintendent Lora Adams-King and several other local officials celebrated the opening of the newly renovated Farrell Area High School library.
In 2009, Altmire secured $200,000 in the federal budget to help improve this facility after the school district requested funding through his office.
“When I visited the Farrell Area High School library two years ago, I was shocked to see textbooks had been printed more than 30 years ago,” Altmire said Monday. “Now, this library is filled with new books and cutting-edge technology that can help students gain the knowledge and skills that they need to succeed. With its plans to offer evening hours for the public and special programming for families, I have no doubt that this library will be a valuable resource for the entire Farrell community.”
With the federal funding, the library bought 1,400 new books, a dozen new computers, as well as implemented a computerized cataloging system to keep track of the library’s collection and hired two library aides.
The library has also undergone renovations with new carpeting, shelving and furniture.
