Cockpit smoke: Detroit-bound plane returns to SC

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Officials say a Delta plane bound for Detroit with 39 passengers aboard has returned to a South Carolina airport after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit

Airport spokeswoman Rosylin Weston said the aircraft landed at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport about 1:15 p.m. today. Authorities reported no injuries.

The plane stopped short of the gate to let passengers disembark, and buses returned them to the terminal. One of the airport’s runways was closed briefly so the plane could be moved.

Officials say investigators are trying to determine the cause of the smoke.
