new castle, pa.

The New Castle School of Trades is moving some of its programs into a new building, said its director, Jim Buttermore.

Buttermore said the 93,000-square-foot building once housed West Penn Plastics. It is on U.S. Route 422 about six miles closer to New Castle than the present location, which is on U.S. Route 422 in Pulaski Township.

The present location, a 50,000-square-foot building, will stay open and will house the school’s heavy-equipment operations and truck-driving programs,

Moving to the new building will be the school’s electrical, automotive, machinist, refrigeration and air-conditioning and commercial and industrial maintenance programs, Buttermore said.

The school bought the new building last year, he said. The move is expected in late spring or early summer.

The school draws from a 50-mile radius and has 650 students, Buttermore said. It is owned by North American Trade Schools Inc., which also has a school in Baltimore.

The school has been at its Pulaski Township location since 1954, Buttermore said.
