Hubbard girls, Struthers boys win sectional bowling crowns

Hubbard’s girls team and Struthers’ boys team won sectional bowling crowns during Saturday’s sectional bowling tournament at Freeway Lanes.

Runnerup to Hubbard was the Boardman girls team, followed by Fitch, Niles, Canfield and Howland.

The Struthers boys were followed by Hubbard, Ursuline, Harding, Fitch and Canfield.

Struthers had 4502 total pinfall, Hubbard 4102, Ursuline 4059, Harding 4024, Fitch 4009 and Canfield 3991.

Six teams (boys and girls) and six individuals (boys and girls) advanced to the district level in Lorain, Feb. 26 (girls) and Feb. 27 (boys).

Individual boys advancing were Girard’s Carl Clay (664), Niles’ Dan Monroe (661), Brookfield’s Bill Katko (654), Girard’s Clayton Cupan (646), Champion’s Eric Ferraro (643) and Liberty’s Rickey Evans (602).

Liberty’s Marissa Simon, Struthers’ Amanda Noel, McDonald’s Megan Moore, Mooney’s Rachael Letscher, Ursuline’s Arianna Toth and Mineral Ridge’s Cassie Reese advanced as individuals not on a qualifying team.

Hubbard’s pin total was 3851, Boardman’s 3837 and Fitch’s 3787, while Niles registered 3369, Canfield 3251 and Howland 3246.

Simon rolled 556, Noel 548, Moore 546, Letscher 544, Toth 539 and Reese 537.
