Grant provides energy upgrades to McDonald

McDonald Village has received a $50,000 grant from the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council to implement methods that result in reduced energy consumption.

The grant will be used to replace a 10-year-old truck with a more fuel-efficient model, install energy-efficient tennis-court lighting, and outfit an antiquated village marquee with energy-efficient lighting.

The award is part of nearly $16 million in Powering Our Communities grants that NOPEC is distributing to the 129 communities throughout the nine northeast Ohio counties that it serves.

NOPEC, founded in 2000, is the largest nonprofit government energy aggregation in the nation and uses no taxpayer dollars. It uses bulk-buying techniques to reduce energy costs.
