A group of local high school students will travel to Japan this summer for two weeks as part of the Student Ambassador program, sponsored by People to People Student Ambassador program.

They were recommended and interviewed in October and will meet monthly for educational and social meetings to prepare for the 14-day adventure from June 24 to July 7.

President Eisenhower started this program in 1956 and thousands of students and adults have visited locations of every continent as a way to increase understanding and cooperation among nations.

These students are busy raising money to offset the cost of travel and are learning more about the country before their trip.

While in Japan, they will tour Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto and will also have a homestay with a Japanese family. Leaders this group are Gary and Sandie Reel of Austintown, who have been involved with this educational opportunity for many years.
