Three Glenwood wrestlers place at league tourney

The Boardman Glenwood wrestling team wrapped up its season with three wrestlers on the podium at the EOWL Middle School wrestling tournament.

Jaysen Young finished second, AJ Yaist finished fifth and Cody Slaven placed sixth at Eastern Ohio Wrestling tournament.

“It was exciting to watch those three compete in the finals round because all three are first-year wrestlers. I expect big things out of those guys at the high school and even more out of the seventh-graders returning next year,” said Glenwood coach Eric Diefenderfer.

The Spartans finished the season with a 10-13 record. Each year, they face tough competition from the tri-county area and travel to compete with some of the top middle schools in the state at the middle school Federal League tournament.

“We are proud of the progress the wrestlers made throughout the season,” said Diefenderfer, who is assisted by Nick DeMarinis. “Evidence of their progress came from an important win late in the season as the Spartans avenged a loss to the South Range Raiders.”
