PTA to present information on standards

Austintown Council of PTAs invites parents and community members to attend a Common Core State Standards Workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday in room C-118 at Austintown Middle School.

The Common Core State Standards will provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know how to help them.

The internationally bench-marked K-12 standards for college and career readiness in English, language arts and mathematics were adopted by the Ohio Department of Education in 2010 and will be implemented by the year 2014.

The standards are relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills young people need to be prepared for college and work in a global economy.

Participants in the workshop will learn how the standards will affect them and their children, and how they can be part of the implementation process.

Ohio PTA, a branch of the National PTA, is comprised of over 90,000 members in 586 PTA units throughout the state.
