YOUNGSTOWN

FirstEnergy Corp. and the city of Youngstown are joining Mahoning County Habitat for Humanity to sponsor and help build a home in Mahoning County.

Groundbreaking for the three-bedroom, one-bathroom home for the Leavell family is at 10 a.m. next Saturday on Dryden Avenue on the city’s East Side. Construction begins April 2 with a wall-raising day and continues through the spring and summer.

This home is part of FirstEnergy’s statewide effort to support Habitat for Humanity with its goal of providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for people in need.

The funds for the new house were committed under FirstEnergy’s Ohio Rate Stabilization Plan and are not a donation from the FirstEnergy Foundation.

Other sponsors include the Youngstown Community Development Agency, The Schwebel Family Foundation, William Green, Coventry Lighting, Whirlpool, Valspar, and Hunter Douglas.

Volunteers will be provided by Westminster College Campus Chapter, Youngstown State University, and local faith groups. Students from Choffin Career & Technical Center will construct the walls.
