Canfield swimmers qualify for districts


Several members of the Canfield High School swim team qualified for districts after placing among the top in their respective events at the Division I sectional meet Feb. 10-12 at the University of Akron.

Gia Velasquez broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with 1:09.51. That time earned her second place, along with a chance to compete in the district meet. She also won the 200-yard individual medley.

Olivia Williamson took sixth place in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn her spot at districts. Mallory Allen came in fourth in the 100-yard butterfly and Hillary Allen took seventh in the 200-yard free and sixth in the 500-yard free. Adrianna Oddo earned a spot at districts in diving.

In the boys’ meet, Gavin Trebilcock broke the meet record in the 200-yard individual medley with 1:54.83 and placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Ryan O’Malley came in second place in the 100-yard free and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Drew Wellham took fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly and 10th in the 100 backstroke.

Daniel Bogen took fourth in the 200-yard free, guaranteeing his spot at districts. Mark Dalvin placed 10th in the 100-yard free and Nicky Montalto took 11th in the 200-yard free. Drew Bennett placed ninth in the 500-yard free.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Gavin Trebilcock, Ryan O’Malley, Drew Wellham and Mark Dalvin took third place. The 200-yard free relay team of Mark Dalvin, Nicky Montalto, Ryan O’Malley and Gavin Trebilcock came in fourth. The 400-yard free relay team of Daniel Bogen, Drew Wellham, Nicky Montalto and Mark Dalvin earned third place. All three will swim at districts this weekend.
