Canfield JV wrestlers win EOWL title

Neighbors | Submitted.The Canfield junior varsity wrestling team (red team) competed in and won the annual Eastern Ohio Wrestling League JV wrestling tournament at Pymatuning Valley High School Feb. 12. 


The Canfield junior varsity wrestling team capped its outstanding season by winning the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League JV tournament title Feb. 12 at Pymatuning Valley.

Kyle Hido (103 pounds), Matt Ben (171) and Sam Connor (189) each went undefeated and won league titles in their respective weight classes.

Steve Daprile (103) and Nick Borucki (119) each lost just one match in the tournament.

Also posting wins and contributing to the team effort were Matt Dunbar, Ben Seigle, Ed Curran, Adam Nye, Shawn Williams, John Poullas, Brian Batton and Stan Socha.

Heavyweight Adalton Brezninski, a visiting exchange student from Brazil who is new to wrestling, posted his first career win in a hard fought 5-3 battle.

In addition to the EOWL junior varsity title, the Cardinals won several other tournaments this season, including some against varsity teams from other schools.
