Annual food drive starts Friday

YOUNGSTOWN

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley is kicking off its 20th annual Harvest for Hunger campaign at 10 a.m. Friday at the food bank’s offices and warehouse, 2805 Salt Springs Road.

Harvest for Hunger is a monthlong food and funds drive in March to help replenish food bank shelves during the spring and summer months when donations taper off.

In 2010, the Mahoning Valley community raised more than $120,000 and collected 36,173 pounds of food during the campaign. All funds raised and food collected stay in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Individuals or organizations interested in conducting a food or funds drive to benefit the food bank may contact Rita Brady at 330-792-5522, ext. 11. People not able to conduct a food or fund drive can contribute at any local Giant Eagle store by tearing off a $1, $5, or $10 coupon at the register.
