SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Fiesta Bowl has told the Internal Revenue Service it is reviewing political campaign contributions and whether key bowl officials received excessive benefits.
The Arizona Republic reports the disclosures appear in the bowl’s 2009-2010 federal tax returns filed with the IRS.
The documents also show the organization’s top two executives received substantial raises.
The bowl is operated by four non-profit organizations and is required under federal law to publicly release its tax returns.
The Republic says the Fiesta Bowl would not disclose who may have received the excessive benefits as defined by federal tax laws.
The bowl recently placed president John Junker on paid administrative leave while an independent internal investigation examines allegations he was involved in improper political campaign contributions and questionable expense reimbursements.
