POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Feb. 10
Forgery: A Trumbull Avenue man discovered six personal checks missing and that three were cashed without consent.
Stolen property: An employee of Girard Recycling, 426 Hartzell St., told police someone was given about $383 for copper fittings brought to the business before it was discovered the merchandise had been stolen in Warren.
Feb. 14
Damage: A front-window pane was broken in the 100 block of South State Street. Damage came to $585.
Trespassing: Police charged 18-year-old Deovannte Foster of Barberton with criminal trespassing after a Hazel Street man reported having found someone in a bedroom. Foster said a family member had given him permission to be in the home, a report said.
Menacing: A South Randolph Street woman said a neighbor threatened over the phone to harm her.
HUBBARD
Feb. 9
Identity theft: A West Liberty Street man found out his personal information had been compromised.
Theft: Someone took a chair from a yard in the 700 block of Meadowland Drive.
Criminal mischief: Police got a report that someone in a vehicle was tossing eggs at homes on Hillview Drive.
Feb. 12
Theft: Items were removed from a storage locker in the 100 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road.
Theft: A woman in the 200 block of West Liberty Street discovered gasoline had been stolen from her car.
LIBERTY
Feb. 9
Forgery: A man tried to pass two counterfeit money orders totaling $1,510 at Penguin Check Cashing, 3233 Belmont Ave.
Menacing: A student at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, said another girl goaded the accuser to fight with her.
Assault: Officers responded to a fight between two girls at Liberty High School. One girl had numerous scratches and cuts to her face; the other had a few cuts on her hand, a report said.
Theft/weapon: Joseph Profanchik Jr., 38, of 326 W. State St., Niles, faced charges of theft, carrying a concealed weapon and criminal trespassing after $161 worth of merchandise had been stolen from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave. Profanchik also had a folding knife, police said.
Arrest: Authorities took custody of 50-year-old Amos L. Floyd, 1510 Bennington Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on a felony charge from the township.
Theft/damage: A former tenant reportedly damaged a home in the 1700 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road. An inspection revealed that a furnace and a chimney pipe were missing.
Identity theft: A Laurel Street man accessing his bank account noticed unauthorized transactions had been made via the Internet.
Trespassing: Police cited 52-year-old Charles E. Lewis, 5 Louise Lane, Girard, on a criminal-trespassing charge after responding to a report of unwanted people at a trailer park off Belmont Avenue. Lewis had been evicted and asked not to return, a report showed.
Feb. 10
Arrest: Police picked up 31-year-old Daniel McDowell, 949 Canfield Road, Youngstown, on a warrant from the township.
Fraud: Two Haviland Avenue residents discovered a total of $11,000 worth of unauthorized charges and fees had been made to their credit or debit cards.
Feb. 11
Arrest: Police on Belmont Avenue picked up 29-year-old Jennifer Cupan, 634 Goist Lane, Girard, who was wanted on three warrants from Lawrence County, Pa.
Arrest: Nicholas J. Lee, 28, of 634 Goist Lane, Girard, was arrested on a felony warrant from Portage County.
Feb. 12
Robbery: Police apprehended 34-year-old Antonio R. Vintson, 867 Lansdowne Blvd., Youngstown, near Hadley Avenue after saying they saw him grab a woman’s purse near a Belmont Avenue bank and knock her to the ground. Vintson was charged with robbery, assault, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon, accused of leading officers on a foot chase and trying to bite one of them.
Arrest: Authorities responded to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they took 45-year-old Ronald J. Chilton, 967 Katherine Ave., Youngstown, into custody. Chilton was wanted on a Mahoning County warrant.
Feb. 13
Robbery: Police assisted Youngstown authorities with a woman who said she had been held at gunpoint near a Gypsy Lane automated-teller machine. Youngstown police charged 26-year-old David Johnson, 701 Clyde St., Youngstown, with aggravated robbery and possession of crack cocaine after saying Johnson had a large bag of the drug.
