Ohio county sheriff is vehicle break-in victim

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Hamilton County sheriff in has had his car broken into by someone who stole a cell phone, a blanket and $40 worth of gift cards or coupons for the White Castle hamburger chain.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports a window was smashed on the unmarked cruiser Tuesday morning while Sheriff Simon Leis was parked at the Cincinnati Athletic Club downtown, where he was working out.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Barnett says Leis told him he thought the cell phone was not in plain sight in the vehicle though the cord was visible.

The blanket was in a shopping bag, and Barnett says that may have been what attracted the thief.

The newspaper reports White Castle is where Leis is known to get his morning coffee.
