Father held on $1M bond in Fla. toxic truck case

Thursday, February 17, 2011

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A judge says a Florida man suspected of dousing his son with a chemical is a danger to the community and ordered him held on a $1 million bond.

Fifty-three-year-old Jorge Barahona did not appear in court this morning, but a public defender was there on his behalf. Barahona has been charged with aggravated child abuse.

Circuit Judge Ted Booras says Barahona is a flight risk and ordered a mental health evaluation.

Police say the Barahona critically injured his 10-year-old son. The pair were found Monday at a truck parked alongside Interstate 95. Authorities later discovered the deteriorated body of the boy’s twin sister in the back of the exterminator’s pickup.

Barahona has not been charged in her death.
