6 LA firefighters hurt in Hollywood Hills blaze

LOS ANGELES (AP) — One of six Los Angeles firefighters hurt when a ceiling collapsed on them at a Hollywood Hills home is fighting for his life.

Capt. Tina Haro says the veteran is in grave condition at a hospital.

More than 80 firefighters were called to a 6,000-square-foot home shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Haro says unknown to them, the fire had burned through a sprinkler line and filled the attic with water. She says the ceiling gave way and fell in one huge piece.

The trapped firefighter had no pulse or heartbeat when he was cut free but they were restored.

Three other city firefighters are in fair condition, two with back pain and one with a broken ankle.

Two county firefighters had minor injuries.

Two residents escaped before firefighters arrived.
