JobsOhio bill altered to include more disclosure

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

COLUMBUS (AP) — Gov. John Kasich’s plan to hand over job-creation functions to a nonprofit corporation has cleared a state Senate hurdle with support from three Democrats.

The Senate Finance Committee today approved the measure, sending it to the full Senate for consideration. The GOP-led chamber was expected to vote later today on the Republican governor’s plan to create the new JobsOhio entity.

The committee revised the bill to address questions about public access and ethics.

Under the changes, the nine-member JobsOhio board that Kasich chairs and picks would have to report travel expenses paid for by corporations. The bill also would require notices of the board’s public meetings, and meeting summaries would be released afterward.

The legislation would require JobsOhio to keep public and private funds separated.
