Trustees urge postal officials to retain Mineral Ridge post office

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees have approved a resolution aimed at keeping a township post office open, after postal officials said they will close it March 25 and temporarily relocate it to the Niles branch at 43 W. Park Ave.

Negotiations with the current Mineral Ridge landlord have not produced a new agreement, postal officials said.

The resolution approved tonight says trustees are seeking help from state and congressional representatives to retain the Mineral Ridge site.

District manager of the Northern Ohio District of the U.S. Postal Service, Todd Hawkins, said in a Feb. 9 letter to Trustee Chairman James Stoddard that the Postal Service’s Facility Service office has begun the process of finding an alternative location in Mineral Ridge. Trustees, however, are urging the postal service to engage in “meaningful realistic negotiations with the current property owner.”
