McDONALD

The board of education Monday approved payment for tutors and classified staff for an after-school math-intervention program being funded by federal stimulus dollars.

Sixty-five Roosevelt Elementary students in grades 3-6 are involved in the program, which Roosevelt Principal Dave Vecchione said is geared toward “making math fun.”

There are eight teachers for the program who will be paid $30 an hour and a school secretary and after-school cafeteria worker who will make $15 an hour.

Changes will go into effect for the coaching staff for spring sports this year, with some cuts made as part of the recovery plan.

Assistant coaches for boys varsity track and girls varsity track also will be responsible for junior high track.

Hired were William Koppel, a boys assistant track coach; John FieIds, girls assistant track coach; Dan Williams, assistant varsity baseball coach; and Kayla Puntel, assistant softball coach, all at $1,843 a year.

The junior high girls track coach position given to Jeanette Domitrovich is now volunteer. Steve Bada was hired as volunteer junior high boys track coach.

Other coaching staff changes are that the head football coach will have two paid assistants instead of three. Fifteen volunteers for track, baseball, softball and football were approved.
