When Santa Claus visited Watson Elementary on Dec. 10, he chose to arrive in style.

Kris Kringle waved hello to the crowds from an Austintown fire truck as he arrived at the Santa Breakfast, hosted by the Watson PTA. He met with Austintown children to hear some of their Christmas wishes.

Moira George told Santa she wanted books on Dec. 25, but said that wasn’t the only thing she was looking forward to.

“Spending time with my family is my favorite part of Christmas. Presents are probably the second-best part,” George said.

After meeting with Santa, the PTA offered fun activities and crafts for guests to enjoy. The event featured face painting, Christmas bingo, cookie decorating, an ornament craft and sweet holiday treats. Kids wrote letters to Santa and the PTA even provided a postbox whose only destination is the North Pole.

Mom Melissa Montgomery helped her kids, Evan and Alaina, perfect their ornament crafts. They added drawings to two glass bulbs headed for their family tree at home.

“In our house, it’s all about the ‘Elf on the Shelf’ books. Alaina added an elf to her ornament and Evan is hard at work drawing a reindeer on his,” Montgomery said of her childrens’ inspiration.

Many Watson students attended the event, but Christmas cheer brought guests from the Austintown community as well.

Cousins Bella Neopolitian and Arianna Celedonia said one thing brought them to the Dec. 10 event.

“We came because we love Santa,” Celedonia said with a smile.
