Students enjoy Whoville with a special visit from the Grinch

The lunchroom at Damascus Elementary was transformed into Whoville during a special candlelight lunch.

The theme and decorations were planned by parent volunteers. The Grinch, with his heart two sizes too small, made a special appearance. The Grinch unplugged all of the lights during the students’ meal and attempted to cancel Christmas.

But the students saved Christmas by sharing kind words and intentions to be nice to others this holiday season.

As each student shared, the lights, one by one, were lit again. The 15-foot tree in the center of Whoville was the last to be relit at the school.

Students, families and faculty of the school raised about $3,000 during their annual coin drive. All monies raised directly benefit children in the community. Shoes, clothing, toys and food have been purchased for 40 qualifying children.

Because of the generosity, Principal Matthew Bowen agreed to attend the meal in his special Grinch attire.
