Service restored

GIRARD

Telephone service to the Girard Police Department was restored about 3:30 p.m. Monday.

It was knocked out by a tractor-trailer that hit a power line Sunday afternoon.

Jerry Lambert, Girard service director, said Monday he wasn’t aware of any serious problems that resulted from the outage, which started at 5 p.m. Calls to 911 were going to Liberty Township, Niles and the county 911 while the Girard 911 was down, Lambert said.

The Girard Fire Department number — 330-545-4321 — was still working throughout the outage.

Federal indictments

CLEVELAND

A federal grand jury indicted four Mahoning Valley residents on firearms charges and a fifth on a drug charge, the U.S. attorney said.

Accused of being felons illegally possessing guns were Marque L. Allen, 25, of Warren; Dedric T. Dixon, 35, of Girard; Wayne L. Martin, 30, of Youngstown; and Steven T. Gore, 38, of Campbell.

All purportedly possessed one or more handguns and ammunition after their felony convictions, and Gore also reportedly possessed a bulletproof vest.

Gore and Jeanne M. George, 41, of Struthers, were charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.

The indictments followed investigations by the Youngstown office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force and Youngstown and Warren police.
