The Canfield School Citizens Committee leading the effort to get a 4.9-mill additional levy approved on last month’s ballot spent $11,151 on the failed campaign.

Post-general election campaign finance reports show the citizens’ committee spent $5,703 during the final weeks leading to the Nov. 8 levy vote. The rest of the money was spent between June 4 and Oct. 19.

The levy failed, receiving 44 percent of the vote.

Voters twice had turned down 6.8-mill levies on previous ballots.

Those who ran in last month’s election or had an issue on the ballot had to file reports by Friday for financial activity between Oct. 20 and Dec. 9.

The committee backing a 2-mill renewal levy for the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities spent $48,509 on its effort.

Voters approved that ballot issue 72 percent to 28 percent.

In the race for a Poland Township trustee seat, the winner, Eric C. Ungaro, raised and spent the most money.

Between June 4 and Dec. 9, Ungaro raised $10,950 and spent $10,769. He received 48 percent of the vote in a three-person race.

Incumbent Annette Jeswald DiVito finished in second with 33 percent of the vote. She raised and spent only $145. Also, her husband spent $3,072 on her campaign.

Tony Sferra, who finished last with 19 percent of the vote, raised $1,325 from contributors and gave $2,200 to his campaign. His campaign spent all of the money.
