McDONALD

McDonald School District will receive an additional $6,892 from the federal Education Jobs Fund for fiscal year 2012, which began July 1.

The Education Jobs Fund program provides $10 billion in assistance to the states to save or create education jobs.

The district already received $256,000 from the program for fiscal year 2011, which began July 1, 2010, district treasurer Brian Stidham said. Some of the money helped cover teacher salaries.

The Ohio Department of Education recently notified the district of the new allocation of funds.

The board, in other matters Monday, approved transfers of custodians, including Pam Baker, head custodian, from high-school day shift to Roosevelt Elementary School day shift for her current eight-hour day. She will earn $17.75 an hour rather than her current $17.87 an hour as head high-school custodian. The elementary position pays less.

The board also promoted Tom Amicone to head high-school custodian with a 70-cent increase to $17.87 an hour. Amicone, who was a regular custodian at the high school on the afternoon shift, transferred to day shift.

Both changes are effective Jan. 1. The board wanted to have head custodians at both schools, Stidham explained.

Once custodians finish their changes, Stidham said a full-time position likely will open up, and the district will hire a new custodian at a lower salary.

The board also approved a contract for a disabled open-enrollment student with Niles City Schools for the 2011-12 school year. Niles receives $5,732 in state funds for the student, and additional services for disabled services cost the McDonald district $1,345 last year.

The board will have its reorganizational meeting before its regular meeting at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 9 at the high school library.

Newly elected board members are Tom Hart, John Saganich and Eric Shehadi.
