Nonviolence parade, rally set for Oct. 2

Youngstown City Schools, Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past, the city of Youngstown, Increase the Peace and the Youngstown State University Department of Equal Opportunity and Diversity are planning a nonviolence parade and rally at 3 p.m. Oct. 2.

The parade will kick off Nonviolence Week, October 2-8, and will start on Lincoln Avenue near the Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU and proceed downtown.

The parade is open to all nonprofit organizations such as youth groups, athletic teams, church groups, neighborhood watch groups as well as businesses and government officials and politicians.

Groups are encouraged to display a banner with their group’s name and a nonviolence slogan.

There is no cost for nonprofits and governments, a $25 fee for businesses and a $50 fee for politicians.

Those who would like to participate by walking, driving a car/truck or creating a float must return the registration application and fees by Sept. 12.
