A popular but troubled wooden roller coaster at a southwest Ohio amusement park apparently will be closed for the second straight season.

The Son of Beast coaster at Kings Island north of Cincinnati was closed in summer of 2009 after a female rider said it caused a blood vessel in her brain to burst. It previously was closed for reconstruction after a structural failure resulted in injuries to more than two dozen people.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Agriculture tells The Cincinnati Enquirer the coaster is not included on the list of rides submitted to the department, meaning the park did not apply for a permit and can’t operate it legally.

Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig says the future of the ride has not been decided.
