An Ohio man suspected of killing a Sandusky police officer is set to go on trial in January and could face the death penalty if he’s convicted.

The Sandusky Register and The Blade in Toledo report the court has scheduled 50-year-old Kevin Randleman’s trial to start Jan. 23.

The Sandusky man is charged with aggravated murder in the March shooting of an officer who stopped him while he was riding a bicycle.

Authorities said Randleman was injured when the two exchanged gunfire.

The newspapers report several Sandusky police officers were in court Friday as Randleman learned his trial date.

Randleman remains in jail.

His attorney did not immediately comment after he appeared in court Friday.
