COLUMBUS
The Tournament Of Champions, the largest-one day amateur wrestling tournament in the world, took place Saturday, hosting over 2,400 youth wrestlers from around the United States.
The tournament, in its 19th year, has been held at the Columbus Convention Center for 15 of those years.
Several wrestlers from the area were qualified to participate.
Alex Mackall (Austintown) was the only local athlete to place in the tournament, taking third. He finished in seventh place in his weight class last year.
Other local wrestlers included Andrew Fairbanks, Adam Green and Anthony Moffo, all of Austintown; John Berndt and Matthew Cardello of Poland; Luke Scheetz of New Middletown, and Justin Mitchell of Hanoverton.
