Rust Belt Theater

The Rust Belt Theater Company, located in the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., will host the third annual production of “When I Knew ... and How it Saved Me” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and April 29 and 30.

Each year, the performance combines local writing and music with the work of local artists in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Director is Robert Dennick Joki.

Doors will open each night at 7 for a preshow reception and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit The Oakland Center’s Magic Carpet Theater, a touring company that promotes diversity by providing educational theater for elementary schools in Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Open studio set

A spring open studio and art sale is scheduled by the Mahoning Commons and Friends from noon to 5 p.m. April 30 and May 1 at Mahoning Commons, Ward Bakery Building, 1024 Mahoning Ave.

Summer Arts Day

YOUNGSTOWN

Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., will host its annual Summer Arts Day Camp for children July 19-22 and July 26-29 at its Trumbull Branch in Howland.

This is the 23rd consecutive year for the camp that draws youngsters from Mahoning, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties and Lawrence and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania.

The program is for children age 8 to 12 and can accommodate children with special needs. The camp uses an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to the disciplines of visual art, music, drama and dance. There are a few openings. Greater Youngstown Italian Fest July 29-31 is accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year.

Applications for scholarships are available. Applicants must be attending Youngstown State University to be eligible. One scholarship is for a nursing student who will be attending YSU. Deadline is June 1.
